Vikings: The North Atlantic Saga
The Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History contracted S2N Media to design and build the companion website to their Vikings: The North Atlantic Saga exhibit. The resulting image-rich website features a "Guided Tour" which allows visitors to wander through the museum at their own pace, examining an array of artifacts and archeological finds and learning about new discoveries. The "Viking Voyage" provides an interactive map through which visitors can retrace the historical route from Scandinavia to Newfoundland, gaining a sense of the geography, history and peoples of the Viking North Atlantic along the way. The site also offers a resource section with guides for teachers and families, a bibliography, related websites, and glossary.
For the exhibit floor, our team created a three-minute 3D digital animation of Viking ship construction with over 160 separate components. S2N Media also provided Web marketing services under this contract, with an emphasis on exhibit branding.
Awards for the site include Yahoo Site of the Day, and USA Today Hot Site. Media coverage of the site appeared in many publications, including Science Magazine, The New York Times Science Times, and others.
